Mission - To provide an indexed and searchable historical collection of information about the Ebenezer Riggs Family, who resided in Oxford throughout the 1800's, to the residents of Oxford, CT.

Collection - The scope of this collection consists of materials from the early to the late 1800’s, and are all owned by the Oxford Historical Society. All the materials are considered public domain and consist of hand-written and type-written articles, photos and maps of the Ebenezer Riggs family homestead and history in the Town of Oxford. There were several generations of the Riggs family in Oxford, dating as far back as the late 1600’s and remaining until the late 1800’s. Several generations of the Riggs family built their homes  together along the same road, which was later named, “Riggs Street,” after them. This collection is going to focus the family history of Ebenezer Riggs, who was born January 26, 1806 in Oxford, and died December 12, 1877. Ebenezer Riggs was buried in the Oxford Congregational Church Cemetery. Although many generations of the Riggs family lived in close proximity on Riggs Street, Ebenezer Riggs built his homestead on Chestnut Tree Hill Road in Oxford.  He married Julia Maria Davis, also of Oxford, and together they had four children: Lucinda, Ebenezer DeWitt, Homer and Bernice. The hand-written articles in this digital library include financial ledgers , diary and journal entries of the Ebenezer Riggs and his family. Ebenezer's two daughters, Lucinda and Bernice, married into prominent families. The library also includes photos and documentation of an invention patent of Homer Riggs, one of Ebenezer’s sons.
